And if he does everything he wants to before a likely move up to heavyweight next year, the light-heavyweight titleholder isn't likely to get much downtime.
While potential super fights and a Chael Sonnen (28-12-1 MMA, 6-5 UFC) title fight are on the horizon, Jones (17-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC) admits he'd still like to fight 205-pounders Dan Henderson (29-8 MMA, 6-2 UFC) and Alexander Gustafsson (14-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC).
Jones mentioned both potential during Tuesday's MetroPCS online chat with UFC President Dana White and Sonnen. Jones, of course, is currently taping "The Ultimate Fighter 17." He and Sonnen are opposing head coaches on the reality show, and they're slated to fight on April 27 following the show's conclusion on FX.
The choice of Sonnen, a recent UFC middleweight title challenger who's never won a UFC fight at light heavyweight, for a title fight was met with some criticism. Some of it came from Henderson, who claimed the booking "degrades the sport of MMA."
But Jones hasn't shut the door on a potential meeting with Henderson, who was slated to fight the champ this past month at UFC 151 before a knee injury forced the challenger off the card.
"I'm not disappointed I didn't get the Dan Henderson fight," said Jones, who's also targeted for a super fight with middleweight champion Anderson Silva. "But I think that's a fight that's inevitable. Everybody wants to see it. Dan Henderson is undoubtably one of the best fighters in MMA history, and it will happen. Hopefully I'll fight Chael and then defeat Chael and then defeat Dan Henderson."
First, though, Henderson has to get by Lyoto Machida. They're expected to fight early next year in a title eliminator.
After that, if Jones sticks to his plan, it'll likely be time to move up to heavyweight. But if not, or if it's delayed until 2014, he'd like to test his chops against fast-rising contender Gustafsson.
"I think he's great," Jones said. I can't wait to fight him. A lot of people say the reason why I win is because I have long arms. When I fight Gustafsson, that will be behind me. So I can't wait to prove all the critics wrong."
