Kristen Stewart vs. Robert Pattinson –’s WHO WON THE WEEK

It’s the showdown WWTW readers have been waiting for, two of the biggest celebrities in the world squaring off one last time. They have loved, fought and (supposedly) loved again. And it’s led to five films and over a billion dollars in domestic grosses.

Yes, we’re obviously talking about “Twilight”’s leads Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. It’s hard to believe that only four years ago these two were just fresh faces in the business. But all good things must come to an end and with “Breaking Dawn Part 2″ opening this weekend the final chapter of the “Twilight” saga has been filmed. And it looks like they’ll be leaving on a high note. Earning a projected $135 million over the weekend, the film won’t pass the franchise’s biggest first-weekend earner (“New Moon” back in 2009 grossed $142.8 million), but it will take the sixth highest opener in box office history.

In other box office news, Daniel Craig’s latest rendition as James Bond in “Skyfall” continued its strong release, taking the number two spot with over $40 million in its second weekend. And Daniel Day-Lewis’ portrayal of our 16th president in “Lincoln” stays in the hunt as the Oscar hopeful finished in third with over $20 million.

But back to KStew and RPattz. In a week filled of gossip and hard questions, who really came out on top?

Kristen Stewart

It hasn’t been just a contentious week for Kristen Stewart, but since the summer the star has been dealing with her admission that she cheated on Pattinson with her “Snow White and the Huntsman” director, Rupert Sanders.

Reports this week were that the she and Pattinson are cordial and working it out. Whether that’s just for the release of the final “Twilight” or the truth will be decided in the future, but you have to give it to Stewart. First, just admitting that she did something she regrets (how many in Hollywood are that honest?) and then, for the most part, talking about the relationship when its brought up. Granted, most of the time she dodged the question, but at least it wasn’t one of those inside jobs where the publicist doesn’t even let the question get asked.

Now the next chapter in Stewart’s career begins. Hopefully with us talking more about what she does on screen than what’s in the tabloids. She has the talent to transform into a power player in the business that not only stars but produces her own projects (a la her mentor Jodie Foster), but at only 22 it’s tough to tell if that’s what she wants to do. She certainly isn’t scared of taking more adult-focused roles. As we see in her next film, “On the Road,” where she plays a sexed up beatnik. (Honestly, it’s a performance that would even make Bella’s pale vampire skin blush.)

Robert Pattinson

Being the one that got cheated on can be tough too. Pattinson has been a good sport about the whole thing, especially considering that when the news of the cheating came out he was in the middle of doing press for the release of his sci-fi noir “Cosmopolis.” So there was nowhere to hide.

Thankfully there were some safe spots this week as he had fun on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” and “LIVE with Kelly and Michael.”

In regards to Pattinson post Twilight, he’s got a leg up on Stewart in projects on tap. He’ll be starring in a futuristic Western (“The Rover”), play opposite Naomi Watts (“Queen of the Desert”) and will team once more with his “Cosmopolis” director David Cronenberg (“Maps to the Stars”). What does this mean? Just that he’s being a little more proactive in getting the Edward stigma off of him.

So, Rob (and Kristen), the “Twilight” movies may be over but it’s going to stay with ya for years to come, like it or not.

And the winner is…

We could easily say both stars are the winners this week, just because they survived without a public meltdown. But after heated discussions we award WWTW to KStew.

She’s taken jabs from fans and journalists and has shown that she’s a tough gal. And, we also learned this week that she may already be in a new power couple: How about Jennifer Lawrence!

Yes, Stewart told MTV this week how she and the “Hunger Games” star have hit it off while handing out together (as well as with “Harry Potter”’s Emma Watson).

Don’t think we’d be able to handle a Stewart-Lawrence buddy comedy… but we’ll take the chance if they’re game.
